On Sunday, November 26, we will begin collecting items and gift cards for Mission Agape in the days leading up to Christmas. We want to bless them during this holiday season and help them begin a new year with resources to meet as many needs as possible in our community. Be sure to look for a list and a shopping bag in the south rotunda. Once you purchase items, bring them back to GCR and place them under the Christmas tree.
HOUSTON RELIEF EFFORTS
In the past few months, GCR has helped the Houston area recover from hurricane Harvey. However, the need is still great. One church we’ve helped has over 600 pending clean up requests and we know of several other churches with similar needs. They need workers and they need a lot of them.
If you are willing to lead, we will help you build a work trip. We will help with promotion. We will help with funding. In fact, the elders have set aside $25,000 for this effort, so finances should not be an obstacle. We will also help with logistics. Trips can be next month, next year, a week long, or just a long weekend. It will be up to the team leader to decide.
Contact Michael Humphries if you would like to help lead a trip or would just like to learn more.
JESSE TREE DEVOTIONAL BOOK
The Jesse Tree Devotional Books are available in the South Rotunda! This Devotional Book was written by members of GCR for each of the 25 days leading up to Christmas Day. These are devos you can do with your family, your friends, or even alone.
Join the many members of GCR as we follow the stories in the bible that lead up to Christ’s birth, and how each one whispers the name of Jesus.
MERGE (5th-6th grade)
We will be taking a break from our monthly Merge event until January. We would like for our Merge families to pray about coming to our Parent Seminar on December 10! Sign up online.
November 29 – Lost Arts: Rest with David Ayres
ONE TO ONE TUTORING
1 to 1 Tutoring is a valuable and growing ministry that partners local churches with schools to provide students with access to a resource that is greatly needed, but often cost prohibitive.
Each Tuesday afternoon, volunteers from GCR meet in the Lee High School Library to help students with their schoolwork. As the program continues to expand, we need tutors in ALL subjects! You do not have to be an expert…the only requirement is basic knowledge of a subject, and a willingness to help students study or complete assignments. We are also in need of volunteers to provide food each week. This is a great opportunity to get to know some amazing young people and show our support for the teachers and counselors who invest so much in the lives of our local youth. Sign up in the South Rotunda, or contact Valerie Tinker for more information.
We are hosting a Parent Seminar on December 10 from 2:00-7:30pm. Robert Oglesby, a professor and Director of Youth and Family Ministry at ACU, will be joining us and giving us insight on some of the difficulties parents face in 2017. This one day event will be an opportunity to learn about some of the biggest pressures that our kids face and how we can best support them as parents and mentors. Sign up online now or talk to Jason Allen if you have more questions!
