GCR shepherd selection
We are blessed to share that these men have agreed to serve as Shepherds of the GCR Church of Christ.
Take some time to get to know these men and their families.
Eric & Shannon Augesen
Eric was born and raised in Odessa, where he has practiced law for the past 20 years. He and his wife Shannon have been married for 25 years and they have three daughters: Maggie, Abby, and Ellie. Eric and Shannon are active in our Youth Group, helping to lead and teach “The Merge” on Wednesday nights since 2012, and they both serve on GCR’s Church Planting Committee, of which Eric is the chair. The Augesens have been worshiping and serving at Golf Course Road since 2004.
“I love GCR’s commitment to finding and reaching the lost everywhere, locally, regionally, and globally. I pray that everyone who walks through our doors will grow closer in some way to Jesus Christ.”
Lan & Cassie Bundy
Lan was raised in Jacksboro, Texas, met his wife, Cassie, in Lubbock, and they’ve been married 22 years. The Bundys have four children: Afton, Laylan, Locke, and MJ. Lan sings on the GCR Worship Team and he’s one of our adult Bible class teachers; Cassie blesses our church with her artistic gifts; and both Lan and Cassie serve as small group leaders for our GCR high school freshmen and sophomores.
“I love the direction GCR is moving right now, putting our faith into action and allowing ourselves to be transformed into God’s people. Even through our flaws and imperfections, we genuinely strive to be more like Jesus is who we are and what we do. I pray for GCR to not just maintain our momentum, but to pick up speed as we continue to become the Kingdom of God.”
Craig & Susie Dawson
Craig and his wife Susie first met in the GCR Singles Class back in the early ‘80s and have been married now for 40 years. Craig moved to Midland after graduating from Texas Tech with his business degree in 1982, and just retired from the insurance business last year, giving them more time to spend with their three sons and four grandchildren. The Dawsons share a strong commitment to GCR’s small groups, and Craig is a regular member of the Tuesday morning men’s Bible study.
“I believe GCR is a bright light in our Midland community and around the world. It’s where the love of Christ is found and his grace is shared, where the Gospel challenges and changes lives through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Roy & Hayley Geer
Roy began worshiping and serving with GCR while he was a high school student at Midland Christian; his wife, Hayley, grew up in our congregation; and now they are both serving as small groups leaders for the high school Juniors and Seniors in the GCR Youth Group. The Geers have two children, Finley and Mayer, and they’re all deeply passionate about community service in the Permian Basin. Roy has served with the GCR finance team, the Good Neighbor ministry, and as a leader for the Young Families class. Hayley is the chair of our Sisterhood women’s ministry.
“GCR is a family of believers who care deeply for one another and aren’t afraid to be imperfect as we learn and grow together. Our shared passion is to serve our community and reveal the love of Christ through our relationships and actions.”
Mark & Beverly Helferich
Mark was born in Denver, Colorado and his family settled in West Texas when he was twelve. He and his wife, Beverly, have been married 37 years and they have two daughters. Mark is currently one of our adult Bible class teachers. Except for a two-year stint in Houston as part of a job assignment in 2019, Mark and Beverly have been worshiping and serving at GCR since 2005.
“I appreciate the heritage of GCR and its strong position to minister to people in Midland. We want to help people feel welcome and to connect with our God through our congregation in meaningful and fulfilling ways.”
Jarrod & Tracey Hutchinson
After meeting at a Singles Ministry event in San Angelo during their college years, Jarrod and Tracey got married in 2004, moved to Midland for his first accounting job, and have been GCR members for 20 years. Jarrod teaches history at Midland Christian School and serves on one of our adult Bible class teaching teams, while Tracey is committed to GCR’s Sisterhood women’s ministry. The Hutchinsons have two daughters, Carley and Kendal, who are both active with GCR Youth.
“We love GCR because it feels like home; GCR is our family. We love the people and we are passionate about the direction GCR is headed in its vision and mission. We’re here because we feel the church is on the mission of God.”
